The view through the kaleidoscope evokes a dream world - am I part of the forest?
To mark the anniversary of Langenberg Zoo, the “Animal and us” exhibition presents the 150-year history of Switzerland's oldest zoo.
The vision of a beautiful and vibrant 19th century forest conjured by the founder, Carl Ludwig von Orelli, is realized with three large kaleidoscopes and forms the prelude to the exhibition.
Along an extended corridor, important milestones in the zoo's history are told in a variety of large-format photographs. The lattice-like wooden posts are suggestive of a cage and, depending on the perspective, allow visitors to imagine themselves as the exhibited object.
Concluding the exhibition is the Vision Alpine World in the form of a panoramic image. The Alpine World project idea is to be realized by 2030 and presented to a broad public at the exhibition.
